WA’s Environmental Protection Authority may have thrown a spanner into the process for the proposed resort on the Margaret River coastline.
Late last week, the EPA confirmed they would demand an environmental review of the locality earmarked for the Westin Margaret River Spa & Resort and associated mixed-use housing.
The decision was triggered by actions by Shire of Augusta-Margaret River councillors to formalise the wording around zoning in the Shire’s local planning scheme earlier this year.
While the zoning change itself would not thwart the plans by developer Luke Saraceni, the EPA review could affect the timetable at the very least.
Last week, Mr Saraceni confirmed developers were on the cusp of submitting the resort and associated village plans to the State Government’s development assessment unit.
More to come.
